Rivers Cuomo divulged some interesting news to fans at Weezer’s Coachella set over the weekend, revealing they were working on a "Weezer movie in LA." On Friday (April 18), film insider Jeff Sneider reported some details about the project, including whose going to be in it.
According to Sneider, the film is a “mockumentary” described as a cross between Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. It reportedly stars Juliette Lewis, Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, Ben Schwartz, and Keanu Reeves as the villain. The band members will also be in the movie, playing themselves. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are co-directing and David Leitch is producing the movie.
In other Weezer news, it’s been an intense month for bassist Scott Shriner. His wife, Jillian Lauren Shriner, was shot by police during a shootout on April 8, and then arrested for attempted murder. On April 10, she was released from jail on a $1 million bond.
The incident with Jillian occurred when LAPD responded to a hit-and-run on the freeway in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. Three suspects fled the scene by foot, with one climbing over the freeway embankment and running through a residential street.
Officers set up barricades and blocked off streets as they searched for the suspect. The street happened to be the one the Shriners live on. According to a news release, Jillian emerged from her house with a gun in hand and after being instructed to drop her weapon, things escalated.
“Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers; at that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the news release stated.
After getting shot, Jillian ran back inside her house. Thirty minutes later, she and her babysitter came back outside and surrendered to police. Jillian was taken to the hospital and booked for attempted murder, then released on a $1 million bond on April 10.
