Spotify down: More than 21,000 UK users hit by widespread outage – London Evening Standard

News | Tech
Spotify is down for thousands of users in the UK, with many people reporting glitches in the app.
More than 21,000 users headed to the website DownDetector to report bugs in the app.
The reports began to surge at around 1pm, with some reporting that the app had stop functioning, while others revealed glitches within the streaming service.
Disgruntled users flooded social media with reports and comments on the outage.
“Who’s come on to twitter to see if spotify is down? ,” said a user on X (formerly Twitter).
“ Why Spotify buggin rn #spotify,” another user said.
Spotify is aware of the issue, posting on the social media site: “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!”
However, it did not detail when the service would resume normality
Spotify suffered downtime just seven days, when more than 5,000 users reported problems with streaming, playlists and playback.
While Spotify acknowledged the problem, it did not explain what had caused it.
Before that, the streaming service went down for several hours in April 2023, with users reporting issues with most of its functions, including its compatibility with connected speakers such as Sonos.
In other Spotify news, the company recently rejected rumours that it was pushing adverts to paying users.
The response came after some users reported hearing ads while listening to music in March, despite paying a monthly fee to avoid them.
Although Spotify indicated it was a bug, the issue appears to have gained traction on social media. Users circulated rumours that the app was introducing ads to its Premium tier to charge even more to remove them.
“There is a rumour circulating that Spotify is putting ads into premium music listening,” Spotify said. “This rumor is false. Premium music listening is and will remain ad-free.”
