Afrobeats singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, aka Ruger, has voiced frustration with the music industry.
He expressed concerns that untalented artists gain popularity through extensive promotion, regardless of their lack of skill.
Ruger criticised the industry’s emphasis on promotion over talent, stating that money can buy fame despite an artist’s shortcomings.
He also targeted the excessive use of autotunes, particularly during live performances, which he believes compromises authenticity.
According to Ruger, the situation has been hurting him, as he values genuine talents and artistic expression.

He emphasised that he doesn’t rely on autotunes, proud to showcase his raw talent.
He wrote on X: “The music scene has been hurting me coz no matter how shit an artist is, once there’s money for hype, Otilo.
“Now, let’s talk about the gaddamn autotunes on the mic when y’all perform. Next time, tell your engineer to shut it down when you’re about to speak coz you be speaking in Tunez wahalaaaaaa. Well, Ruger don’t need that shit. thank you,” he wrote.
