CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – People filled Riverfront Park to celebrate Easter Sunday and the Lord through music and community at the annual Gospel Fest.
Project Love held the worship-filled event, which included performances from more than 10 musicians and pastors, vendors and activities for children.
“Jesus Christ said it all, he died and was risen from the dead,” Gospel Fest attendee Dorthy Simmons said. “I enjoy hearing different singing and it does my soul really good.”
For over 30 years, Gospel Fest has not only brought members of the Charleston community together on the holy day, but even people who traveled from far and wide.
Myra Bellinger, whose husband was one of the performers, traveled with their family from Charlotte to attend.
“I think it’s great in times such as these because there’s so much division in the world,” she said. “There’s a strangeness in the atmosphere. I can’t even explain why, I don’t know how. But when we can do something like come together and do something like this and everybody be in their own world, their own space, but yet we’re together under one banner, it’s an amazing opportunity.”
One performer even said he grew up coming to Gospel Fest, which made singing at Riverfront Park even more special.
“To be out here with the testament on this resurrection Sunday, it’s just amazing to enjoy the breeze, the fellowship of friends and family, the vendors,” Bellinger said. “It’s a wonderful thing to do on a Sunday afternoon.”
With the tradition of Gospel Fest already spanning many years, those who worshiped hope the tradition can last for many more to come.
