Foo Fighters have surprisingly removed Josh Freese, one of their prominent band members, from their group.
In a post on Instagram, Josh disclosed the surprising news of his termination from the band, stating: "The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they've decided 'to go in a different direction with their drummer." There has, however, been no apparent explanation of the reason behind this decision. Josh admitted: "Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band."
He added, "In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I've never been let go from a band, so while I'm not angry – just a bit shocked and disappointed."
Josh has also shown a good sense of humor by saying: "But as most of you know I've always worked freelance and bounced between bands so, I'm fine. Stay tuned for my 'Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters' list.'"
Upon learning the news, Wendi McLendon-Covey showed support, saying: "wtf? ? ? ? ? ? But hey, you'll always be fine…. And you might actually be dodging a bullet. Love to you and your family!".
Tim Heidecker chimed in, joking: "Upside is you won't have to hear any of those horrible songs ever again!" William Goldsmith wrote, expressing disappointment: "Say what? Why for playing everything not only perfectly but going above and beyond what most are remotely capable of? I apologize, but respectfully, this makes absolutely no sense to me."
A fan of the band expressed their dismay at the news, stating: "Omg this is not what I expected to read today. Josh us Foo fans loved you in the band. We will miss you and I will still be following you on IG."
This announcement followed speculation that he was slated to permanently fill the shoes of the late Taylor Hawkins.
He became a part of the band in 2023 after touring with other legendary bands like Nine Inch Nails, Devo, and Guns N' Roses.
Josh's entry into the band came in the wake of the passing of long-time former drummer Taylor, who died at age 50 last year while the band was touring in Bogota, Colombia.
Since then, they've held massive tribute concerts in Wembley. Among those performing at the tribute gig were Josh and Taylor's son, Oliver Shane.
The rock band, which has bagged several Grammy Awards and Brit Awards over the past two decades, is most famous for hits like This Is a Call and Best of You.
Their self-titled debut album, released in 1995, catapulted them to fame, and they later topped the charts with albums such as Wasting Light in 2011. More recently, they enjoyed immense success with Concrete and Gold in 2017.
