Beloved by northern gig-goers as one of our most explosive live acts, Point Chevalier’s garage punk champions Cindy somehow level up even further with ‚Big Summer Blowout‚, their first official release from the award-winning no-dud-fest that is Aotearoa’s Sunreturn imprint. Absolutely soaked with fuzz and sweat and going crazy cheap — "99% off" to be precise — the team of Scott Brown, James King, Gloria Florence and Mitchell Ihle‚s bargain-hunting banger was mixed by longterm compatriot of the group Kody Nielson (The Mint Chicks, SILICON, Unknown Mortal Orchestra).
Like an even gruntier Mudhoney meets Spacemen 3, the single is out and now it’s time to party. Te Waipounamu punters are in for a treat as Cindy are playing their first ever headline shows in Ōtautahi and Ōtepoti (pretty wild considering they’re toured Japan multiple times). Dig out your dancing shoes and boogie down…
"I left the house to go and get groceries and when I got back Gloria had written and demod the song already. The lyrics are from Gloria’s perspective, about how I have mastered a technique about getting cheaper groceries…
The music came together pretty quickly, I had been listening to a lot of Spacemen 3 so the feedback over the top of the chords must have been influenced by that.
Completing the song and having it 100% finished is a great feeling. We have always struggled to get to the mixing stage right – hence our slow output of releasing songs. Gloria has brought a very simplified way of how to write. I think we have finally found our feet." – Scott Brown
