South African pop star Tyla was named World Artist of the Year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on 17 March in Los Angeles.
She beat the other nominees in the category – Burna Boy, Central Cee, Tems and YG Marley.
She was also nominated for R&B Song of the Year for Water (where Made for Me by Muni Long won) and Dance Song of the Year for her remix of Water with Marshmello (360 by Charli XCX instead won in this category).
Tyla has not made any online posts about the event or the win. The singer was in Italy last week for a Mercedes-Benz event, where she performed.
Other winners from the iHeartRadio awards include Taylor Swift, who received nine awards. Benson Boone’s song Beautiful Things was named Song of the Year, while Billie Eilish received the Album of the Year accolade for Hit Me Hard and Soft.
Artists such as Gracie Abrams, SZA, Jelly Roll, GloRilla, Sabrina Carpenter, and Green Day also received awards.
Tyla has won numerous awards so far in her career, including a Grammy for Best African Music Performance, two BET awards, two Billboard Music Awards and more at other ceremonies.
She also became the first South African and solo African artist (without a feature) to have a song break a billion streams on Spotify with her global hit Water.
Earlier this month, Tyla was seen at Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week, seated next to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
