The Frost School partners with AI program to shape the future of music – University of Miami

By FrostNews
The Frost School of Music and the artificial intelligence music creation program Sunoannounced the completion of the first semester of having their forward-looking, future-shaping partnership brought to life to positively influence how AI is employed at leading music schools and beyond. The partnership, established at the end of 2024, is just one way the Frost School is playing a leading role in reimagining music education for the benefit of students, faculty, and others who get to use new technologies within a highly creative, educational setting.
By integrating AI tools into its multidisciplinary curriculum, the Frost School is able to offer new ways to harness the power of emerging technologies for artistic ideation and problem-solving while at the same time identifying new possibilities for how to advance the use of AI as part of the music creation and education process.
“Setting a new standard for what makes a great music school is a longstanding hallmark of the Frost School of Music,” said Dean Shelton G. “Shelly” Berg. “As such, we view it as an internal mandate to jump into what’s new and emerging within the music industry. At this point in time, that means the further infusion of AI across the music school curriculum. Our partnership with Suno AI is just one example of how we’re closely collaborating with other industry leaders and changemakers to help influence how new innovations are deployed and help define what it means to be a top music school.”
During the 2025 Spring semester, students across the Frost School experimented with the intersection of music and AI. In doing so, they are learning how to better harness the power of AI, coupled with their musical creativity and experience, to generate musical cues for media projects, songwriting collaborations, live performances, and more.
“What drew us to the Frost School of Music was the school’s longstanding tradition of actively shaping what’s next for music schools while cultivating the next set of music industry leaders of tomorrow,” said Mikey Shulman, CEO of Suno AI. “For us at Suno AI, there’s no better partner than one that sees emerging technology and change coming at them and then actively faces and embraces it head-on. We’re confident that together, we’ll expertly explore the potential of AI to help build a future of music that we can all be excited about, knowing it stands to benefit those in the industry now and everyone who is set to enter it in the future, including the outstanding students at the Frost School.”
Next semester, as part of the one-year initiative, the Frost School and Suno AI will work to expand the integration of Suno AI’s tools across additional Frost School programs, while closely documenting feedback and experiences from participating faculty and students. In doing so, the organizations will develop and promote best practices for the use of AI in music creation and analysis, and also create new opportunities for students to bridge traditional musicianship with emerging technologies.
“There is no greater laboratory than a higher education institution and that goes double when it comes to being embedded in one of the top music schools in the world,” said Shulman. “The feedback we gain as part of this new initiative will be invaluable as we look to further refine the beneficial intersection of music technology and artistry together with the Frost School of Music.”
