Rachel Platten is opening up about her mental health struggles in a new campaign that she says is "deeply personal."
Platten joined forces with the Mental Health Coalition and Kenneth Cole for the latest installment of the latter’s "Purposeful Voices" series, dropping a new video featuring her song "Bad Thoughts" to help raise awareness for mental health and resources during May, which is Mental Health Awareness month.
The video encapsulates unrealistic standards of beauty and success in the industry and navigating staying true to yourself and not trusting the "bad thoughts" that "aren’t real." The track is off her latest album I Am Rachel Platten, a vulnerable project detailing her experience with postpartum depression and anxiety.
In a press release, the "Fight Song" singer said she was "incredibly honored and so very proud" to partner with Kenneth Cole and MHC, sharing how she relates to the campaign and why she felt called to be an advocate.
"After the whirlwind success of my first major label album and subsequently entering motherhood, I fought a brutal and long battle with my mental health," she said. "Now that I’m finding my joy in my life and music again, I once again feel pulled towards service. But this time, it’s deeply personal. I hope to use my music, my voice and platform alongside Kenneth Cole and the MHC to help remove the stigma around mental health and raise awareness around all the incredible tools and resources available through their platform."
