Passionate, personable, and driven by a deep respect for the South Australian music industry, Di Spillane is the creator and host of OFF the LABEL — a community radio program on PBA-FM 89.7 that goes well beyond the traditional music show format.
Designed to inform, educate, and inspire, OFF the LABEL offers a rich blend of diverse music, engaging interviews and thoughtfully curated content that places the spotlight firmly on local talent.
From the beginning, the program was built around inclusivity and accessibility. By choosing to air earlier in the week, Di deliberately decided to support musicians’ schedules, offering a platform they could easily tune into, no matter what stage they were at in their careers.
Each week, the show features a guest from the South Australian music scene, but these aren’t just surface-level conversations. Respectful, well-researched interviews create space for honest storytelling, touching on topics such as songwriting, recording processes, and the meaning behind lyrics.
This approach allows listeners to discover the person behind the music while giving artists the chance to speak freely, uninterrupted and in their own words.
“I spend hours listening to the music our local artists release,” Di shares. “I don’t just throw songs together. I design each playlist to complement my guests and the themes we’re exploring.” This thoughtful structure gives OFF the LABEL a unique identity — one that is factual, resourceful and subtly layered with meaning.

The show champions unity, equality, and community. It’s about connection — not just between artist and listener, but within the broader ecosystem of the South Australian music scene.
And it’s part of a much bigger journey that began back in 2017 when Di launched the Band It About Facebook page to promote local gigs with simple live videos. Two years later, this grew into the Band It About podcast series, which shared deeper stories of Adelaide’s music-makers.
Post-pandemic, the focus shifted from filming gigs to encouraging audiences to return to venues. That spirit of support now extends across radio, podcasting, and social media, with Di also working freelance to help artists build their presence through digital content and event management.
Currently studying a Graduate Diploma in Radio and Podcasting at the Australian Film Television and Radio School, Di continues to develop the skills needed to elevate both their storytelling and the voices of others. Volunteering at the local community station, PBA-FM, offers vital studio experience, combining education with real-world impact.
OFF the LABEL is more than a radio show. It’s a mission to celebrate, support, and amplify South Australian music, one story at a time.
