As the days tick down until Oasis launch their long-awaited reunion tour this July, speculation over the group’s setlist has been running rife. Now, reports have emerged they may be axing one of their most iconic tracks from the upcoming shows.
Back in January, Liam Gallagher responded to reports of a leaked setlist by noting it’s “not far off” what the band intend perform when they hit the stage for the first time in 16 years. Notably, the potential set opened with Acquiesce, a 1995 B-side which is known as the only track to feature vocals from Liam and his brother Noel.
Though a fitting way to mark their reunion, others had speculated that the set would potentially open with Hello, the opening track to 1995’s (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? and a tune fittingly featuring the lyrics “Hello, hello, it’s good to be back.”
However, Hello has become the victim of controversy by association thanks to the original featuring the melody of Gary Glitter’s 1973 track, Hello, Hello, I’m Back Again. Glitter was sentenced to 16 years in prison in February 2015 after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting three underage girls between the years 1975 to 1980.
Due to Glitter and co-writer Mike Leander receiving writing credits on Hello, any performance of Oasis’ track would result in performance royalties going to Glitter and the estate of Leander. Though Glitter had sold his songwriting rights previously, his credit would still generate performance royalties.

According to a report by British tabloid The Sun, Oasis have made the decision to leave Hello off their setlist.
„The lyrics of the song would obviously have been a good fit for the reunion tour but the band have decided to leave it in the past,” the source said. „It would be inappropriate to play it given its connotations to Glitter and his convictions.”
Of course, there is the question of whether the band would have played Hello to begin with. Oasis hadn’t performed the track since 2002, while Liam Gallagher hadn’t played it as part of his solo shows since 2022, though its presence in their reunion setlist would have been entirely fitting.
