The Town of Danville will debut a new outdoor performance space and kick off National Small Business Week with live music in the heart of Downtown. Music at the Plaza begins Saturday, May 3, with a dynamic lineup of local performers taking the stage at the new Prospect Park Plaza. The event will also officially wrap up the Town’s more than $4 million investment in revitalizing the historic Downtown area.
Before the inaugural concert, the community is invited to a celebration at 3:30 p.m. marking the conclusion of the Downtown Master Plan Catalyst Project, which brought safety-related features and beautification elements as well as gathering spaces to the area around Hartz Avenue. Primary construction concluded in winter, and final paving, striping, and work on the two plazas will be complete this month. Theatre Plaza, adjacent to the Village Theatre & Art Gallery, will be available as an extension of the theatre for community events.
The launch of Music at the Plaza coincides with National Small Business Week, May 4 through 10, a chance to enjoy the renovated Downtown while supporting local businesses. In Danville, close to 90% of businesses have nine or fewer employees, the highest percentage of “micro” small businesses in the Tri-Valley. The Town’s investment in Downtown improvements directly supports these locally owned businesses, many of which have been in Danville for decades.
Set against the backdrop of Downtown Danville’s many unique, locally owned shops and restaurants, this free concert series invites the community to rock their way into summer with great music, good company, and lively summer vibes. Performances will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and select Fridays, every other week, and the community is welcome to stop by, relax, and enjoy the show.
