The Music Week Awards returned for another spectacular – and completely sold-out – celebration of the British music industry.
Hosted by a new presenter, Jamz Supernova, the ceremony returned to the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London, Park Lane.
The ceremony is, of course, the biggest night in the music industry calendar – and the peer-voted awards honour talent across the breadth of the business (you can read all the finalists in the 23 categories here). The awards represent success during 2024.
Industry high-flyers and legendary executives attended the event, including Island Records founder Chris Blackwell – who got to see his label, now headed by Island EMI president Louis Bloom, secure a double victory in the prestigious Record Company and A&R categories.
Another industry hero and former Music Week Awards winner, Ian McAndrew, was honoured at the ceremony’s conclusion with The Strat – Music Week’s special award for a truly game-changing executive.
The award for the top music manager and CEO of Wildlife Entertainment was a standout moment in a special evening – not least because the stunned audience witnessed it being presented by UK rock icon Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys alongside Wildlife MD Emma Greengrass. You can read McAndrew’s story in our exclusive digital cover on the Strat winner on Musicweek.com on Friday morning (May 9).

Senior figures also in attendance included Universal Music UK CEO & chairman Dickon Stainer, Warner Chappell CEO and co-chair Guy Moot, RCA co-presidents Glyn Aikins and Stacey Tang, Polydor Label Group president Ben Mortimer, Atlantic president Briony Turner, UMR president Hannah Neaves, Beggars Music chairman Martin Mills, Sony Music Publishing UK co-MDs David Ventura and Tim Major, Warner Chappell EVP, UK MD and head of international A&R Shani Gonzales, UMPG UK MD David Gray, EGA Distro chairman and president Colin Batsa, BBC director of music Lorna Clarke, UTA UK head Neil Warnock, Concord EVP, worldwide A&R Kim Frankiewicz and many more.
The evening kicked off with the trophy for Grassroots Venue: Spirit of the Scene, which went to The Bodega, Nottingham. It comes amid growing momentum for wider support from the live sector for grassroots venues.
Music Week cover stars Oasis and Big Brother Recordings triumphed in the Catalogue Marketing Campaign category. It follows the No.1 success for the 30th anniversary edition of Definitely Maybe, and comes ahead of the band’s huge reunion tour.
Atlantic regained the Promotions Team Of The Year category following airplay success in 2024 with acts including Teddy Swims, Ella Henderson and dance smash Kisses.
The Warner Music label also picked up the Artist Marketing trophy in recognition of the impact of Charli XCX’s Brat album – and there was also a win for Charli XCX’s agency Huxley in the PR campaign category.
The music publishing sector was also out in force at the ceremony with companies nominated in multiple categories. The two big ones, of course, are for Publisher Of The Year and Independent Publisher Of The Year. Sony Music Publishing picked up the first trophy in recognition of its work with talent including Charli XCX, Hozier, Ed Sheeran, Myles Smith, Queen, Sade, Central Cee and more.
In the indie publisher category, Stellar Songs / Tim & Danny Music triumphed thanks to the impact of hitmaker Phillip Lawrence, including co-writing Apt, and breakthrough success for UK act Good Neighbours.
At a time when there’s a focus on such UK exports, the International Marketing Team of the Year award is an important recent addition to the Music Week Awards. Sony Music won this year with the judges impressed by the team’s work on Myles Smith and Central Cee.
Live is more important than ever for launching and nurturing artist careers and the sector was well represented among the tables at the Grosvenor House London. In addition to the grassroots trophy, there were wins for AXS Europe (Ticketing Company), Reading & Leeds (Festival Of The Year), CAA (Live Music Agency) and SJM Concerts (Live Music Promoter).

During their acceptance speech, SJM’s Jack Dowling and John Cornwell paid tribute to Chris York, the company director and a much-loved promoter behind acts including Oasis, who died last year aged 55.
As the evening progressed, there were some hard fought categories, including the award for Label/Artist Services – an increasingly competitive sector of the music business. In the event, The Orchard emerged victorious following chart-topping results for Blossoms and Michael Ball & Alfie Boe.
Independent Record Company was another category full of strong entries. Ultimately, though, it was XL Recordings who came out on top following a stellar year including Fontaines DC’s Romance – the biggest new independent album of 2024.

Fontaines DC are just one of the many acts championed on the Radio 1 New Music Show by Jack Saunders, who was the deserving winner of the Radio Show award. Meanwhile, BBC Radio 6 Music reclaimed their Radio Station crown.

Over the course of the wide-ranging Music Week Awards, there were also trophies for Sales Team (Universal), Sync Team of the Year (Universal Music Group, Globe), Music & Brand Partnership (Tom Grennan x Gillette x Various Artists Management x Sony/4th Floor Creative x Insanity – The Best A Man Can Get) and Music Consumer Innovation (TikTok – Add To Music App).

The ceremony reached its conclusion with some of the biggest categories of the night. Charli XCX’s Brat was again in the spotlight at the ceremony with a win in the Manager Of The Year category for Twiggy Rowley & Sam Pringle, Project Gold, who flew in to the awards from the US.

Island EMI’s double victory for Record Company and A&R (which Island won last year) was the first time that has been achieved in five years.
The victory for the label group (which merged last autumn) headed by Louis Bloom follows a fantastic run of results, including developing talent such as Lola Young, The Last Dinner Party, English Teacher, FLO and Nia Archives – a testament to the vision of Chris Blackwell more than six decades ago. In his acceptance speech, Bloom acknowledged the culture of the label that Blackwell established.
The Island label also achieved impressive chart results and international success with UK-signed Hozier (a transatlantic No.1 with Too Sweet), along with Noah Kahan, Chappell Roan, Post Malone and the Wicked soundtrack.
The big finale of the evening was the presentation of The Strat to Ian McAndrew, whose roster includes Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines DC, Royal Blood, Kae Tempest and Wunderhorse.
You can read about the golden touch (and modest manner) of McAndrew in our digital cover story (live on Musicweek.com early on May 9). Triumphs in the past year include the chart impact and strong live business for Fontaines DC, the Top 10 breakthrough for Wunderhorse and the incredible streaming consumption for Arctic Monkeys, whose albums continue to chart regularly as the band mark 20 years since their debut single.
As well as the presence of Alex Turner (which appeared to be a surprise even to McAndrew), there were video tributes from Fontaines DC, Royal Blood and Kae Tempest in acknowledgement of an incredible 35-year career that also included huge success with acts including Travis, Brand New Heavies, Craig David and Tasmin Archer.
There was also an acknowledgement of McAndrew’s key role on industry issues including combating touts and campaigning in Parliament on secondary ticketing, as well as support for tour crew during the pandemic.
It was a truly inspirational end to the ceremony, which then continued into the small hours with a DJ set from Capital Network’s Kemi Rodgers.
