LAGOS – As the heart of Nigeria’s gospel music scene continues to blossom, a rising guitarist is carving a unique path. Deolu Donalds, a fast-rising guitarist, has carefully blended faith with musical finesse to create something truly special.
His journey into music wasn’t exactly planned. In an interview with Deolu Donalds, he noted that it was more like divine orchestration. Growing up in a home steeped in music, filled with early morning devotions and choir rehearsals, he was surrounded by melodies from the start.
“I never thought I was going to take it up professionally though. I had other plans, but here we are,” he admitted.
Today, with growing conversations around professionalism and music rights, strong instrumentation has become more central than ever, something Deolu captures effortlessly through his guitar.
When asked to define his sound, he said, “It’s not one direction. However, I’m inspired but it’s always going to be about God.” That inspiration could manifest as soft, soul-stirring acoustic worship or high-energy strumming that echoes the joy of Nigerian praise.
His approach to music is grounded in authenticity and surrender. “I believe I’m on a journey,” he said. “Just here to enjoy every part of it.”
From humble beginnings, learning chords during family devotions, to leading worship with confidence, his story is one of growth, grace, and guitar strings. And while the road ahead is still unfolding, one thing remains constant: his desire to glorify God through every chord he plays.
Asked about what changes he hopes to see in the gospel music industry, his response was simple but powerful: “More love, less hate.”
It’s a sentiment that mirrors his music, rooted in unity, driven by faith, and resonating with hearts across Nigeria. As his ministry continues to evolve, one thing is clear: Deolu Donalds’ guitar isn’t just an instrument. It’s a voice, a vessel, and a powerful tool for worship.
