King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Share Horny New Single ‘Deadstick’ – Music Feeds

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have released a new single, which serves as the second single from their recently-announced 27th album Phantom Island. ‘Deadstick’ arrives not long after the band shared the title album’s title track, and features a prominent horns section arranged by Chad Kelly from the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra.
“Chad brings this wealth of musical awareness to his chameleon-like arrangements,” said bandleader Stu Mackenzie in a press statement. “We come from such different worlds – he plays Mozart and Bach and uses the same harpsichords they did, and tunes them the exact same way. But he’s obsessed with microtonal music, too, and all this nerdy stuff like me.”
A video for ‘Deadstick’ has also been shared, which can be viewed below. Its director, Guy Tyzack, said in his own press statement that his vision for the video stemmed from the title of the song itself. “Deadstick refers to when a plane propeller stops midflight, so I decided to have a massive plane made out of cardboard crash land into a beautiful location,” he said. “The song is big and chaotic, so then I went about casting swing dancers and eccentric extras to fill the landscape.”
Phantom Island is set for release on Friday, June 13th via the band’s own label, p(doom) Records. It follows on from last year’s Flight b741, which cracked the top 10 of the ARIA Albums Chart – becoming the 16th of the band’s albums to do so. It also charted in the US and Scotland. King Gizzard launched p(doom) last year with the release of Ill Times, a collaborative album between band member Ambrose Kenny-Smith and multi-instrumentalist Jay “Gum” Watson of Pond.
