SALT LAKE CITY — Thousands of music lovers are flocking to the Utah State Fairpark as the Kilby Block Party continues its four-day festival. Now in its sixth year, the festival is expected to bring 15,000 to 20,000 attendees each day, celebrating a mix of indie artists and big-name bands like Beach House, Justice and Weezer.
Festivalgoers are excited about Salt Lake City’s growing role in the music world. Coral Van Noy shared how Kilby Court, a well-known local venue, has nurtured independent musicians over the years.
“Utah has been a small place for indie bands to start, and especially Kilby Court — it’s a cool place,” Van Noy said. “It’s cool that so many more people can come and make it a big event.”
Carlos Rodriguez echoed that sentiment, saying the festival helps put Salt Lake City on the map as a music destination.
“Just like LA has Rolling Loud, this does it for the state,” Rodriguez said.
Attendees also appreciate Utah’s unique scenery. Sophie Poll Smart emphasized the strong community atmosphere at Kilby Block Party, calling it a “wholesome community of people who love music.”
With large crowds expected through the weekend, Salt Lake City Police are increasing their presence near the Utah State Fairpark. Officials from Salt Lake City Emergency Management and the Fire Department have coordinated plans to respond to any major incidents.
Residents and businesses near the festival should expect extra pedestrian traffic, while festivalgoers are advised to take precautions for safety and convenience:
If attendees encounter issues, they can flag down an officer, call the non-emergency line at 801-799-3000, or dial 911 for emergencies.
