Jim Root explains Slipknot new music delay – Metal Insider

by | May 14, 2025 | News | 0 comments
Despite previous hints about new Slipknot music, including a teased track titled “Long May You Die,” guitarist Jim Root came forward in late 2024, confirming fans shouldn’t expect a new album anytime soon. In a recently published interview from December 2024, when Slipknot performed at the O2 arena in London, England, Root told Guitar Interactive that the band hasn’t been actively writing.
“Not diligently. Honestly, we’ve been touring so much since [drummer] Eloy [Casagrande] joined the band that my inspiration is nearly zero. And there’s a bunch of music that was written during COVID that I’m not interested in. And I think everybody else in the band gets it too, and I think they’re kind of, like, ‘Okay, we need to just kind of, like, maybe sweep all that shit under a rug and start fresh.’
And I wanna get touring behind us. I wanna have at least a month off just to shut my brain off and sleep and all that kind of stuff. And then when I find myself going out to my little home studio and putting riffs together, then I’ll know it’s time to start.”
Casagrande, who joined Slipknot in early 2024, had previously hinted at working on new ideas with the band but admitted that the process remains unclear, with no pressure to release anything soon. For now, Slipknot is focused on commemorating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, with another run of tour dates starting in June. For tickets and all tour dates, go to their website. Slipknot released a standalone single in 2023, “Bone Church,” and later, the Adderall EP of the same year, both following their overall seventh studio album 2022’s The End, So Far.
