ST. PAUL – The ACFA Regionale de Saint-Paul hosted its Jazz Art event on May 10, featuring five local artists creating artwork during the evening. Attendees were able to watch the creative process in person while also mingling and listening to jazz music played by the Quatuor Celsius with Pierre Paul Bugeaud.
The five artists were painters Elise Proulx, Mary Jane Houle, and Herman Poulin. Poulin is also an award-winning sculptor. Mosaic artist Eric Spoeth, as well as Franck Savoye, a multi-disciplinary artist from France, were also featured.
The night culminated in a live auction where the art created that night was sold.
The bi-annual fundraiser helps support the local ACFA’s year-round cultural programming, said Sylvie Smyl, director at the ACFA. "As we are a not-for-profit, many of our events are free to the region but allow for cultural programs offered throughout the year," she said.
Other ACFA programs include bilingual events for all ages, such as from toddler play sessions to concerts in schools and community gatherings for seniors.
According to Smyl, the ACFA hosted over 60 events between April 2024 and March 2025, and proceeds from Jazz Art ensure the non-profit can continue offering many of these programs free to the community.
"We want to extend a thank-you to all of the local businesses and individuals who purchased tables, donated items and helped with the incredible success of this event," she said.
