Caymanian singer, songwriter and musician James Geary is set to perform next month at the British Soul Fest, a London- and Brighton-based indoor spring music festival created by independent artists for independent artists.
“I’m very pleased to perform at Soul Fest,” Geary told the Cayman Compass.
Geary was invited to participate in Soul Fest following his audition with The Voice UK, a show aimed at discovering unsigned singing talent through public auditions.
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity that was provided to me via a colleague in the creative space who connected me with the organiser with this festival,” he said.
The full-time musician, 34, is known for his dynamic vocals and musical talents, fusing R&B, jazz, rap, soul, rock, reggae and adult contemporary. His musical journey spans performances throughout the US, France, Canada, the Caribbean and the Cayman Islands.
His notable achievements include winning the Soca Monarch competition in 2021 and again in 2023. He has also collaborated with local and international artists, including on Morgan Heritage’s 2023 album, ‘The Homeland’, as one of the executive producers.
He had a unique opportunity in New York to serenade people on one of the Big Apple’s iconic double-decker sightseeing buses to promote Cayman as a tourist destination, part of a series of “unique activations” by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism to attract potential visitors.
Geary confirmed he will perform a range of tunes including his original music, “some of which has been released”.
“I’ll be arranging them and mixing them within several different genres. I’m looking forward to performing and being in that creative space,” he said.
Geary, the only act from the Caribbean and outside the UK, said he’s looking forward to performing alongside other acts such as London-based artists Rosie Alexandra, Delz, Sophiz, Kühlname, Pati Piko, Danni Mayers and Alex Cambridge.
His performances will be held on 1 May at The Blues Kitchen in London and on 4 May at The Prince Albert in Brighton. For more, visit the event website.
