Fiio has unveiled the FT7 over-the-ear planar headphones with an open-back design for high-resolution music enthusiasts. The FT7 uses gold and silver-coated diaphragms to reproduce Hi-Res Audio from 5 Hz to 40 kHz with high fidelity. The swappable lambskin and suede earcups provide a wide soundstage with highly detailed sound or a breathable fit with enhanced vocals. The carbon fiber body keeps overall weight to 427 grams (15 oz.) for comfortable wear.
The headphones use 106 mm drivers with 1μm thin driver diaphragms able to respond to ultra-fast sound vibration changes. Gold and silver traces are vacuum deposited on the surface using 28 nm process technology similar to that used in CPU manufacturing. The gold helps create relaxed low- and mid-frequency sound reproduction, while the silver enhances the high-end.
A Fiio-exclusive, patented magnetic field design creates a more uniform magnetic field across the planar driver to generate sound with less distortion. The magnets are arranged in a push-pull design on both sides of the diaphragms for balanced, fast response. West African zebra wood covers the earcups, and the slots in them are aligned with the magnets to help reduce sound wave interference that causes distortion.
The headphone cable is crafted from cryogenically-treated, oxygen free (99.99998%) monocrystalline copper wires wrapped with PFA (perfluoroalkoxy) insulation to help generate a more relaxed and richer sound. The 4.4 mm balanced cable comes with 6.5 mm and XLR adapters for use with high-end audio equipment. The FT7 and cable can be kept in a storage case made of soft, woven linen when not in use.
The Fiio FT7 is available from Aliexpress for $700 – $2,700, but it has not yet appeared in the Fiio store on Amazon US.
