A Viagogo ad campaign was rapped by the UK’s advertising watchdog recently after a complaint from FanFair Alliance.
Now the anti-scalping organisation is cranking up the pressure on the secondary-ticketing firm amid a UK government consultation on reform of its market.
FanFair has published what it believes are “a range of potential offences committed by Viagogo” since the consultation launched on 10 January.
They include speculative selling of tickets for a Bastille tour before the public on-sale; allowing professional sellers to list tickets with “wildly incorrect face values” and non-existent seat and row numbers; drip pricing and other misleading practices.
“Viagogo’s belligerent disregard for UK audiences never ceases to surprise. But to continue promoting such exploitative and unlawful practices during the consultation period really takes the biscuit,” said FanFair campaign manager Adam Webb.
His announcement came backed by statements from the bosses of the MMF, Live and UK Music, with the industry bodies also keen to see the government bring in more regulations for the secondary ticketing market.
Update: Viagogo has contacted Music Ally with this statement:
“Viagogo takes its obligations under the law seriously and is fully compliant in the UK and with the CMA order. Our policies prohibit speculative listings. Any alleged speculative listing that we identify as being speculative is removed from our platform in line with our policy,” said its spokesperson.
“Sellers found to be in breach of our policy will be dealt with including permanent suspension from using our platform. We remain committed to operating a safe, transparent, and lawful marketplace for fans to buy and sell tickets.”
