We’re barely into 2025, and Elton John already has some cool news to celebrate in the New Year. The pop-rock legend’s Diamonds compilation has topped the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart more than seven years after its 2017 release.
The career-spanning hits collection, which has been released in various formats and configurations, debuted at No. 5 when it was first released, and then initially peaked at No. 2.

The compilation’s recent chart resurgence was helped by the release of new limited-edition versions, including a first-ever cassette edition.
In an exclusive statement, Elton told the Official Charts Company that he was thrilled with Diamonds new chart achievement.
“I’m so happy to have a UK Number 1 album with Diamonds,” the 77-year-old star said. “It came out in 2017, which feels like a lifetime ago. This is the first time it’s topped the charts since its release. I’m blessed that so many incredible things have happened with my career during that time.”
John added, “I’m overjoyed and want to sincerely thank all my incredible fans for their constant love and support.”
Elton also posted a video clip on his Instagram page that captures him commenting about Diamonds’ success as he grasps his No. 1 album award.
“I’m so excited and thrilled that Diamonds is the No. 1 album in the U.K. this week,” he declared. “Thank you to all my fans and everyone who went out and bought it. What a great start to the year. I could not be happier. Yes!”
In addition, Elton also announced some “[e]xciting news” on his Instagram post, revealing he has “[n]ew music coming in 2025.”
Diamonds becomes John’s ninth album to reach the top of the U.K. Official Albums Chart. Elton’s previous No. 1 albums are Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player (1973), Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973), Caribou (1974), Elton John’s Greatest Hits (1974), Sleeping with the Past (1989), The Very Best of Elton John (1990), Good Morning to the Night (2012), and The Lockdown Sessions (2021).
Diamonds has been in the Top 100 of the Official Albums Chart since its November 2017 release. That’s 374th consecutive weeks on the tally. The compilation also owns the records for the most consecutive weeks within the chart’s Top 40, and the most weeks inside the Top 40 before reaching No. 1.
In the U.S., Diamonds peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. It currently sits at No. 39 on that chart.
