Doechii paid homage to her younger self in the action-packed music video for her popular song "Anxiety."
On Friday, April 18, the Florida native shared the visuals to her 2019 track, in which she raps over Goyte and Kimbra’s hit "Somebody That I Used To Know." The video begins with Doechii rapping her verse in her bedroom exactly the way she did when she self-released the song during the early phase of her days as a YouTuber. Things go left within seconds after her window breaks. She’s suddenly bombarded by a squad of movers, a SWAT team, a kitchen fire and a rabid dog.
Clearly, a lot is going on in Doechii’s latest music video. The Grammy award-winning rapper appears to relive the same moments over and over as her anxiety truly starts to kick in. At one point, you can see her real-life twin sisters dressed as the siblings from The Shining, who scatter once everything turns chaotic. She encounters firefighters who neglect the massive fire in her kitchen, a random group of people seated in her dining room, and two people who look like Gotye and Kimbra in their 2011 music video for "Somebody I Used To Know" in her living room. She closes out with a huge dance routine in front of her home (and a black Buick Grand National) before she relives the chaos all over again.
Doechii’s "Anxiety" visuals have already achieved plenty of success after garnering over 5.3 million views in just three days. She dropped the video a month after she re-recorded and released the new version of the song on streaming services. Fans were hype to hear the updated version five years after she debuted the original freestyle on her YouTube channel. Before it dropped, the song had gained popularity on social media, especially after Sleepy Hallow dropped his version of the song in 2023.
