Borderline are back with a tender new track.
The New Zealand indie-pop outfit have dropped “New Romance”, their second single of 2025.
“‘New Romance’ is one of our most emotionally vulnerable songs, and there’s a warmth to it that we really love,” the quartet says. “We wanted to capture that mix of intimacy and comfort and we hope it’s a feeling people can connect with.”
You can listen to “New Romance” below, which packs their familiar blend of breezy pop melodies, synths, and lyrics about new love.
The track follows last month’s single “When it’s Raining”, which arrived alongside news of their new record deal with music powerhouse EMPIRE (Shaboozey, G-DRAGON, Tyga) — the label’s first-ever New Zealand signing.
The track is “trying to capture the feeling of being completely lost in your anger and sadness; when you can’t see a future where things get better,” Borderline said.
The song was also premiered during the band’s ‘In My Room’ session for Rolling Stone AU/NZ last year.

Borderline’s previous single “Heartbeat” was a triumph, reaching nearly 150,000 streams on Spotify since its release last October.
They’re currently making their mark overseas, ticking off live debuts in the US with shows at SXSW, New York City, and Los Angeles.
The band said they were “so excited to be touring the states.”
“As four boys from New Zealand, this is the stuff you dream of and we couldn’t be more grateful to have the opportunity to explore America and share our music with the rest of the world,” they added.
Next up, they’ll return home for Rolling Stone Local Legends, a series of free gigs at iconic Brisbane and Sydney pubs.
Borderline play Hotel Steyne, Manly on Saturday, May 31th, warming things up for headliners Blusher.
The band are childhood friends: Ben Glanfield (vocals, guitar), Matthew McFadden (guitar), Jackson Boswell (drums, vocals), and Max Harries (bass).
Borderline’s “New Romance” is out now.
