Baxter Dury Announces New Album ‘Allbarone’ – clashmusic.com

Baxter Dury will release new album ‘Allbarone’ on September 12th.
The new record is his first since 2023’s lauded ‘I Thought I Was Better Than You’, and was sparked into life by a chance encounter at a music festival. Baxter Dury performed at Glastonbury’s The Park Stage last year, and bumped into revered producer Paul Epworth moments after coming offstage.
The two chatted amiably, catching up on their personal lives, and swapping details; unusually, the conversation kept flowing, and Baxter decided to link up with Paul Epworth at his Church Studios in North London.
Working across December and January in focussed bursts of creative activity, new album ‘Allbarone’ features nine tracks. ‘Allbarone’ will be available on CD, Standard Black Vinyl & Exclusive Venetian Marble Blue. Album Pre-order https://ffm.to/allbarone.
Set to be released through Heavenly / PIAS on September 12th, the album is led by the evocative title track, propelled by Baxter Dury’s lived-in vocal, and his lyrical barbs.
The songwriter comments: “This is the first track that Paul Epworth and I made and it quickly established why it was a good idea that we were working together. It’s a song about sitting in the rain outside an All Bar One contemplating why what just happened, happened in the way it did.”
“It’s kind of a character arc that goes through the whole thing, two personalities,” he explains. “It’s very critical of people, this album, whoever they are, maybe some bloke with a moustache and sockless loafers in Shoreditch or a fat old Chiswick gangster lording it up in a really comfortable middle class part of London”
“I don’t want to say it’s contemporary,” he summarises. “Because I sound like a cunt using that word. But it does sound really contemporary. It doesn’t sound like a Harrods hamper band made it. It doesn’t sound like a band made it all. Which is what I wanted most of all. It’s just something that’s brand new for me. It’s quite exciting, really.”
