So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
STANDING ON THE CORNER – “BABY”
It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from the undefinable, multi-genre Brooklyn collective Standing on the Corner, but now they’re back with a lengthy, dizzying new single.

MIKE HUGUENOR (SHINOBU, HARD GIRLS, JEFF ROSENSTOCK) – “OILS OF ORANGE”
Mike Huguenor (of Jeff Rosenstock’s band, Hard Girls, and the recently-reunited Shinobu) has announced a new instrumental guitar record, Surfing the Web with the Alien, due June 27 via Lauren Records. Here’s new single “Oils of Orange,” which comes with a Jonathan Kramer-directed video that features members of Scowl, Star 99, Shinobu, and more.

ADA LEA – “BABY BLUE FRIGIDAIRE MINI FRIDGE”
Ada Lea has announced a new album, when i paint my masterpiece, due out on August 8 via Saddle Creek. About the lead single, “baby blue frigidaire mini fridge,” she says, “The Chantal Akerman film where the camera moves in slow circular pans around her apartment. Then what if the frame quickly zooms out as far as it could possibly go? And in that wide pull back, what we recognize as universal is still ‘this chair, this window, this mountain view.’ Then, move out again, even further. What we are left with—three things: ‘our old time souls, this old time moon.’ Two things, I mean.”

KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD – “GROW WINGS AND FLY”
Here’s another single from King Gizzard’s orchestral-leaning new album Phantom Island, and it comes with a fantasy themed video starring a merman played by the band’s Ambrose Kenny-Smith. “There are so many strange and beautiful ways to grow wings and fly,” says video director Hayden Somerville. “We had a very special time down the coast with the band and our crew, releasing our sea creature—who somehow makes me feel a little ill and completely full of joy at the same time.”

THE SWELL SEASON – “FACTORY STREET BELLS”
Forward, The Swell Season’s first new album in 16 years, arrives next month, and the latest single is “Factory Street Bells.” “We live on a street in Helsinki called Tehtaankatu (Factory Street), in former shipyard workers flats,” Glen Hansard says. “There’s a church on our street with a very distinctive hourly bell pattern. Christy, my son, has always visibly enjoyed the bells…and when leaving for work I’d promise him, I’ll be back as soon as I can, and in the meantime, the bells would remind him of my love and return.”

JOSEPH SHABASON & DAWN RICHARD – “BROKEN HEARTED SADE”
Canadian saxophonist and Dawn Richard have teamed up for this tribute to Sade. Dawn sings lyrics from “No Ordinary Love,” “Cherish the Day,” and “Is It a Crime” over Joseph’s track “Broken Hearted Kota.” Says Joseph, “Back in the fall, when I was touring with Dawn and Spencer (Zahn), I would soundcheck with Broken-Hearted Kota. Almost immediately after the first soundcheck, Dawn would come in and start singing Sade songs over the chords. It worked so seamlessly that we made it part of the show every night. After the tour ended, we knew we had to record it. In February, Dawn sent me her vocals, and I rearranged and remixed the original song so that the arrangement worked. The end result is a fun reimagining of both the Sade songs Dawn sang and what Broken-Hearted Kota could be.”

MARK STEWART – “NEON GIRL” FT GINA BIRCH
Fateful Symmetry is the posthumous final album from Pop Group frontman Mark Stewart and on “New Girl” he’s paired with another post-punk icon, Gina Birch of The Raincoats.

TUNE-YARDS – “HOW BIG IS THE RAINBOW”
Ahead of the release of their new album Better Dreaming this Friday, Tune-Yards shared a final advance single, “How Big is the Rainbow.” “The title lyric came out in a flash, and felt more sincere than I’ve ever been lyrically, maybe,” Merrill Garbus says. “But in this day and age, there is no room for subtlety when it comes to advocating for every single human being, for our trans family especially. And SHIT, how big IS the fucking rainbow?! It feels like the time to prove it to each other, to show each other how big it can be.”

MURDER BY DEATH – “LOSE YOU”
Murder by Death will release what they say is their final album, Egg & Dart, next month, and they’ve given us another preview with “Lose You.” Frontman Adam Turla says, “It’s about the people in your life that you are very worried about and that you’re not sure if they’re going to make it. It’s about that feeling of anxiety around not having control.”

POOR CREATURE (MEMS LANKUM) – “ADIEU LOVELY ERIN”
Poor Creature, the Irish trio that includes Lankum’s Ruth Clinton and Cormac MacDiarmada and Landless’ John Dermody, will release All Smiles Tonight on July 11 via River Lea Records. “Adieu Lovely Erin” has celtic roots but is also modern and atmospheric.

MAJOR MURPHY – “TOUCH GRASS”
Here’s a very summery new single from Midwest band Major Murphy.

STEVE QUERALT (RIDE) & VERITY SUSMAN (ELECTRELANE/MEMORIALS)
“I wasn’t sure about this as a vocal track until Verity took it on,” says Ride bassist Steve Queralt of this collab with Verity Susman of Electrelane and MEMORIALS. “I always struggled with the arrangement and thought it fell between two camps. It wasn’t a great instrumental but I couldn’t hear it with vocals either. When I received Verity’s first attempt, I was knocked sideways. It was complete with harmonies and backing vocals. She has no idea how good it was to finally hear it this way!” Steve’s debut solo album is out in June.
