21 New Songs Out Today – BrooklynVegan

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE DARE – “I CAN’T ESCAPE MYSELF” (THE SOUND COVER)
No matter what you otherwise think of the very LCD Soundsystem-esque The Dare, props to him for covering this post-punk classic by The Sound.

BRIAN ENO, BEATIE WOLFE – “WHAT WE ARE”
Here’s another gorgeous, atmospheric and delicately twangy song from Beatie Wolfe and Brian Eno’s upcoming collaborative album. Says Beatie, “What We Are is a new kind of song somewhere on the intersection of cowboy psychedelia and electrofolk. It’s a lullaby for people who don’t sleep as much as they should. It’s a balm for the barmy.”

DOECHII on THE WEEKND & PLAYBOI CARTI – “TIMELESS” REMIX
Doechii’s been everywhere lately and now she’s got a great new verse on a new remix of The Weeknd and Playboi Carti’s hit “Timeless.”

MIDWIFE – “SIGNS”
Midwife follows last year’s No Depression in Heaven with a previously unheard b-side, the haunting “Signs.”

KEVIN DEVINE – “LAUGHING IN THE AMBULANCE AGAIN”
Kevin Devine recently released the song “God Is In the Numbers,” of which he said “it is a Gaza song, it is a solidarity song, it is a protest meditation.” That’s the B-side of his new single “Laughing In The Ambulance Again,” which is here now. It’s cut from a similar cloth as the kaleidoscopic indie rock of Kevin’s 2022 album Nothing’s Real, so Nothing’s Wrong and it’s another good one.

TRACE MOUNTAINS – “THE LINE” FT. HAND HABITS
“‘The Line’ is a song about the distance between two people—how sometimes that distance isn’t measured in miles, but in memories, in mistakes,” Trace Mountain’s Dave Benton says of his new single, which features and was produced by Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy. “There’s a restless heart in it, one that keeps moving just to outrun the ache. And underneath all the motion, there’s a deep, stubborn kind of longing—the kind that makes you draw a line in the sand just so you won’t cross it again, even if you already know you will.”

KID CUDI – “NEVERLAND”
Kid Cudi is debuting a film called Neverland at Tribeca Festival, and he just released a rock/trap hybrid song of the same name. He also revealed his next album will be titled Free.

MILEY CYRUS – “MORE TO LOSE”
Miley Cyrus’ The Wall-influenced new album Something Beautiful arrives later this month, and she’s given us another preview with “More to Lose,” which she debuted at a pre-Met Gala event hosted by Moncler at Casa Cipriani.

OVRKAST – “I’M ON”
Indie-rapper Ovrkast has announced a new album, While the Iron Is Hot, due May 30 via IIIXL Studio, and the announcement comes with his alluring new single “I’m On.” He’ll also be on tour with Saba this spring/summer.

KESHA – “YIPPEE-KI-YAY” (FT. T-PAIN, A.G. COOK REMIX)
Kesha tapped A.G. Cook for a new remix of her most recent single, “YIPPEE-KI-YAY,” featuring T-Pain.

PLASTIC BERTRAND – “ÇA PLANE POUR MOI” (D.T.E & DESO LATEE REMIX)
French punk/new wave greats Plastic Bertrand’s classic single “ÇA PLANE POUR MOI” gets a 2025 techno remix via D.T.E. and Deso Latee who say: “While watching the movie The Wolf of Wall Street, we looked at each other and thought the same thing: this iconic song needed a fresh new techno version. So we immediately jumped in and started. We’re so proud to be doing the song together with Plastic Bertrand.”

ORBITAL AND CONFIDENCE MAN – “RE LUSH”
UK techno legends Orbital and Aussie dance duo Confidence Man have teamed up for a new version of Orbital’s “Lush.” Say Orbital’s Hartnoll brothers, “Confidence Man have done that rare but always strived for thing with a remix, it’s totally Lush, totally Orbital, totally modern, and totally Confidence Man! How did they manage to get all that into one track! I’m even going to nick bits of it for when we play festivals over the summer, that’s how much we love it!” Confidence Man add, “Lush is one of our favorite dance tracks of all time, so we were like rabid dogs with the stems in our hands. Kids in a cooked candy store. Dreams really do come true if you dream hard enough, and we’re proof.”

ELBOW – “SOBER”
Elbow have announced the AUDIO VERTIGO ECHO elbow EP 5 which will be out June 5 via Polydor. It features songs that were started as part of the 2024 AUDIO VERTIGO sessions. Says frontman Guy Garvey: “We are having more fun in the studio than ever before. Craig’s on fire as a producer, Pete and Alex are the coolest rhythm section working and Pot’s unpredictable rhythm guitar has started working its way into such a soulful and accomplished place. The words are all stories from my past, sometimes joyful, often dark, but all of it exciting and mostly true. It feels like we’re having another go on the Waltzers after hours.” First single “Sober” is dancier than you might expect while still being very Elbow.

BIBI CLUB – “YOU CAN WEAR A JACKET OR A SHIRT” (FEAT. CALVIN JOHNSON)
Montreal duo Bibi Club have released a deluxe edition of last year’s fantastic Feu de garde and one of the bonus tracks is a rework of “You Can Wear a Jacket or a Shirt” that has been turned into a duet with Beat Happening’s Calvin Johnson. They say: “We’re fans of K Records and Calvin Johnson’s projects. His ongoing contribution to the independent music scene over the years is meaningful, evocative, inspiring, and essential. We’ve always heard this song as a duet—a conversation between two people out for a walk. The original version conveys a sense of contemplation and empathy. Calvin brought a depth and tension to the song. We also reached out to our friend Dimitri Milbrun, a saxophonist and visual artist based in Paris. His musical aesthetic makes sense alongside Calvin’s—a raw quality, sometimes abrasive but intriguing and strangely comforting.”

MATT POND PA – “HEAVEN OR LAS VEGAS” (COCTEAU TWINS COVER) FT ANYA MARINA
Matt Pond PA have turned Cocteau Twins’ dreampop classic into a lush folk-rock number with help from Anya Marina. “Heaven or Las Vegas blew my indie New England mind in college. I’ve been chasing that out-of-body feeling ever since.” This works surprisingly well. We still can’t understand half the words, though.

MOLLY NILSSON – “CERTE NOTTI”
Molly Nilsson is back with a two-track 7″ and both songs are in Italian, written and recorded in August 2024 in San Giorgio del Sannio, Benevento, during a month long artist residency.

ROYEL OTIS – “MOODY”
Aussie indie duo Royel Otis have released this new single that they say is “a song about a girl.”

SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR – “TASTE”
“What can really make you want to be around someone is when their taste, what they like in life, is something you become addicted to,” says Sophie Ellis-Bextor. “You want to experience all delights with them and share it with them as everything they introduce you to feels just right. All your senses feel alive and awake—like the full flavour of life is realised. Chef’s kiss.” Sophie’s eighth album, Perimenopop is out in September.

GARBAGE – “GET OUT MY FACE AKA BAD KITTY”
Garbage’s new single is an unabashedly feminist protest anthem, and you can read more about it here.

LORD HURON – “LOOKING BACK”
