U.S. News & World Report releases 2025 Best Senior Living Communities, including North Bay – The Press Democrat

The rankings were divided into four categories: independent living, assisted living, memory care and continuing care retirement communities. Four North Bay communities made the list, all in Marin County.
U.S. News & World Report has released its fourth-annual 2025 Best Senior Living Communities ratings, which this year recognized 1,894 such communities across the country. A handful are in the North Bay.
The ratings are intended to help seniors and their families search for facilities that best meet their needs, within any or all of four categories: independent living, assisted living, memory care and continuing care retirement communities, according to U.S. News, which released its report April 15.
In its 2025 report, U.S. News recognized senior living communities 20 metropolitan areas. In California, 53 were in the Los Angeles vicinity and 21 in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Four of those facilities are in the North Bay, all in Marin County — Drake Terrace in San Rafael, Aegis Living Corte Madera, Atria Tamalpais Creek and The Bluffs at Hamilton Hill, the latter two in Novato.
Drake Terrace was recognized in three of the four categories: best independent living, best assisted living, and best memory care.
The three other North Bay properties — Aegis Living Corte Madera, Atria Tamalpais Creek and The Bluffs at Hamilton Hill, the latter two in Novato — were recognized in the best assisted living category.
For its 2025 study, U.S. News reported it analyzed data from nearly 450,000 resident and family survey responses at more than 3,800 senior living communities nationwide.
In the survey, residents and family members were asked about their satisfaction with community safety, caregiving, activities, management, staff, food and value, and other aspects of community life, according to U.S. News.
“Choosing a senior living community is a major life decision for older adults and their families,” said Liz Pearce, director, senior living at U.S. News. “U.S. News‘ Best Senior Living ratings provide data-driven decision support, offering an unbiased evaluation of resident and family satisfaction in senior living communities.“
U.S. News & World Report in 1983 began producing hundreds of rankings within multiple categories. The organization was founded in 1933.
