Cascadia Music’s spring concert, featuring music from Europe and the British Isles, will be presented on May 9 and 10 at the Methow Valley Community Center, at 7 p.m. each night. Admission by donation. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The concert features the Pipestone Orchestra, the Cascadia Chorale under the direction of Terry Hunt and the Pipestone Youth Orchestra under the direction of Pam Hunt.
According to Cascadia’s website, the concert will be a mix of familiar and less- familiar works including selections from Bizet’s “Carmen,” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” and Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No. 5.” Other pieces include Gabriel Faure’s “Elegy for Solo Cello and Orchestra” with Pam Hunt as the soloist.
The Pipestone Youth Orchestra will open the show with a Ukrainian folk song. Emilia Rotstan, the 11-year-old winner of this year’s Christine Cherrington Merit Award, will play a movement from J.S. Bach’s “Concerto in A minor.”
“In the Hall of the Mountain King” from Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” and “Nella Fantasia” from the movie “The Mission” will also be included in the concert. “The Parting Glass,” a Scottish song and the salsa-infused “Sway” will finish the evening on an upbeat and positive note.
