American Music Awards viewers found this year’s awards ceremony to be below their expectations, and many share their disappointment on social media.
After almost three years of being off-air, the AMAs returned on Monday night for the 51st annual event. Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, who first hosted the show in 2015, the AMAs featured performances from some of the most famous in the music industry, such as Benson Boone, Janet Jackson, Gloria Estefan and many more.
Despite J.Lo’s creative opening number, which include a racy kiss moment between her and her male and female dancers, several were left underwhelmed after watching the 2025 AMAs.
Letting it all out on X, formerly Twitter, one raged that the AMAs being moved to CBS from ABC was a mistake—from 1974 to 2022 the AMAs aired on ABC.
“That was the worst American Music Awards I've ever seen. It was a mistake for them to moved from ABC to CBS. #AMAs,” one explained on X.
Some went as far as to brand the 2025 AMAs as the “worst” AMAs in the awards ceremony’s 51-year history.
“That was totally the worst American Music Awards show ever in history,” one whined. “Kai Cenat ruined it and Taylor took home nothing and we have now rep tv announcement and she didn’t show up… so I glad I was working! #AMAs.”
Another added: “Ugh, I've seen thousands of tweets saying that the AMAs awards were crap. I agree, what the hell was that? A terrible waste of time. Thanks Taylor for not going, or a total rip-off, really. #AMAs #TaylorSwift #AMAs2025 #Taylorversion.”
While many were displeased with the 2025 AMAs, there were countless others who felt music legends Janet Jackson and Gloria Esteban were the saving grace of the show.
“Someone at #amas should be fired. What a terrible show (respect to Janet, Gloria and Rod),” one critic complained.
“Holy s- -t the AMAS were terrible this year. Thank god for Janet,” another praised.
Another admitted: “I wasn't expecting much from the AMAs just because it's the AMASs, but i turned it on for the vibes, because award shows always make me happy, but when i tell u the AMAs is THE biggest flop of any award show i've ever watched. the only good part was Janet, the end.”
Janet not only performed at the AMAs, but she also received the Icon Award.
