Ye has, once again, stirred the pot with a bold claim that he’s the originator of “rage music” — a Hip-Hop sub-genre known for its aggressive soundscapes, high-energy production, and moshpit-inducing vibes.
However, the declaration didn’t sit well with everyone—especially with younger artists who have helped define the modern rage sound.
In a recently resurfaced clip, Ye pointed to his 2013 Yeezus track “Blood on the Leaves” as the moment mosh culture truly entered Hip-Hop. The Chicago native went on to credit the track as a turning point in the genre’s evolution.

Trippie Redd, one of the genre’s most prominent voices, took to social media on Monday (April 28) to issue a fiery response. “The inventors of the rage sound is me, X, Carti, and Uzi,” he said. “We paved the way. We popularized it.”

The Ohio native continued, adding that he’s “not gonna let you old ass ni**as say you invented something that you ain’t invent” before seemingly blaming Ye’s remarks on his mental health and perceived superiority complex.
“Ni**as need to take they pills, man. You ni**as be psychotic, like, out of their f**king mind. Your old a** ain’t invent sh*t. That’s exactly why I ain’t pull up on his old ass ‘cause he always just wanna put a ni**a beneath him and sh*t.”
Fans also weighed in on Ye’s assertion, with many pointing to Kid Cudi as a more plausible pioneer of rage and emotional rap. Known as “Mr. Rager,” Cudi dropped Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager in 2010—nearly three years before Yeezus.
Moreover, Cudi’s influence on Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak is well documented, and many argue his emotionally raw sound laid the groundwork for the wave of rage music that followed.
