Girish Cruden, an internationally touring world music artist, teacher and author, will perform at MUSE Sturgeon Bay and lead a workshop at The Yoga Womb in May.
The MUSE concert, held May 16 at 7 pm, will feature local musicians Hans Christian on cello and bass, and Adam Cain on percussion.
Accompanied by his band, Cruden will perform kirtan, a call-and-response style of devotional, vocal Hindu music. During his concerts, he invites his audience to participate through sing-alongs, call-and-response chanting and dancing.
MUSE Sturgeon Bay is located at 330 Jefferson St.
On May 17 at 10:30 am, following a yoga session, Cruden will lead a workshop, titled Prana Rising Immersion: Transformational Breathwork/Yoga of the Voice, at The Yoga Womb, located at 58 W. Maple St. in Sturgeon Bay.
Cruden will guide a deep dive into transformational breathwork, healing mantra and revitalizing Chi Gong. The event is designed to give participants an expanded sense of their potential, vitality, wellness and wisdom.
Cruden is an eclectic artist with roots in jazz, world and sacred music. He plays a wide array of instruments including tablas, world percussion, guitar and harmonium.
The artist began his music career as a jazz drummer, spent five years as a monk in a Hindu monastery and returned to music as a session tabla player on more than 100 world music albums. For the past 12 years, he has written, recorded and performed his original music and taught Sanskrit mantras and chanting at music festivals and yoga studios worldwide.
Concert tickets cost $25 per person and can be purchased at musesturgeonbay.org. Workshop registration costs $40 in advance at theyogawomb.org or $45 at the door. Those interested in both experiences can sign up for a $55 package on the MUSE website.
