Wiyaala to perform at 10th Anniversary of Jazz & World Music Festival in Accra – GBC Ghana Online

Ghana’s dynamic songstress, Wiyaala, is set to dazzle fans alongside an eclectic mix of musicians at the 2025 edition of the Jazz and World Music Festival, as the iconic event celebrates its 10th anniversary in Accra.
In an interview on the GTV Breakfast Show, Sarah Yeboah from Alliance Française highlighted the significance of the festival’s decade-long journey.
“The festival began in 2014. It is a platform to celebrate not just jazz, but the diverse power of music to foster dialogue, unity, and cultural exchange,” she said. “This year, we’re going beyond just jazz. We’re blending it with highlife, reggae and more.”
This year’s lineup reflects a deliberate shift. The decision to incorporate more Ghanaian artists stemmed from the massive audience response to Rocky Dawuni’s reggae performance at last year’s event. “It brought a new energy and really connected with the crowd,” Sarah noted.
Victor Dey Jr, an award-winning jazz pianist and returning performer, shared his enthusiasm. “I always look forward to this festival. It’s not just about the concerts, but the creative collaborations that happen. There’s a pre-show workshop that brings musicians together, it’s a space for learning, connecting, and evolving.”
Victor is scheduled to perform twice on Friday with Swiss vibraphonist Thomas Dobler, and on Saturday with his own set. “I’ve updated some tracks from my older album and will be premiering fresh music,” he revealed. “I’ve also invited some talented students from the Accra Jazz School to bring a different spark to the performance.”
Thomas Dobler, who composed an entire set specifically for his Ghana performance, expressed his anticipation for the local jazz scene.
The festival will span three nights of live concerts, featuring both seasoned and emerging artists. But it doesn’t stop there. Attendees can also enjoy a virtual art exhibition, cocktails, local brews, and a truly immersive cultural atmosphere.
With artists like Wiyaala headlining and a commitment to diverse musical expressions, the 10th anniversary of the Jazz and World Music Festival promises an unforgettable blend of sound, art, and celebration in the heart of Accra.
