VE Day commemorated with music and Union Jacks at Cambridgeshire shopping centre – Cambridge News

Shoppers flashed back to the 1940s as a Cambridgeshire city shopping centre celebrated VE Day. People across the country celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday, May 8, marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War.
At the Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough, celebrations were held from 11am to 3pm for passersby to enjoy. In the afternoon, there was live music performed by The Knightingales, as well as a ‚patriotic‘ VE Day red phone box for people to take 1940s-inspired selfies.
Verity Swinscoe, marketing and events co-ordinator at Queensgate, said: “The VE Day celebrations at Queensgate have been incredibly special. The performances from our talented dancers and singers truly captured the spirit of the day.
“It was heartwarming to see so many people come together to watch, reflect, and join in. We’re proud to honour this moment in history and grateful to everyone who helped make it so memorable.”
