“Children don’t start wars — yet nearly 1 in 5 children around the world are affected by conflict,” that’s the powerful start to a press release sent out by the UK’s Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) today, May 15.
To address this issue, 46 festivals across the UK are uniting to fundraise for London-based charity War Child by putting tickets for their 2025 events up for grabs.
It’s a partnership between War Child, the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF), Boomtown, and Team Love (promoter of Love Saves The Day and others).
Music fans have a chance to win a pair of tickets to some of this summer’s hottest festivals by donating just £10 to War Child via the “Festivals Unite” prize draw, which opened today.
Alongside Boomtown and Love Saves The Day, UK festivals backing the fundraiser by contributing tickets to this special prize include Isle of Wight Festival, Reading & Leeds, Parklife, Shambala, 2000trees, We Out Here and more (full list below).
“All funds raised will go directly toward providing life-saving aid, safe spaces, education, specialist psychological support, and long-term protection for vulnerable children around the world,” the press release states, adding, “with global aid cuts and increasing humanitarian crises, War Child’s work is more urgent than ever.”
According to the charity’s stats, 473 million children are impacted by war, which is more than the population of the U.S. and Canada combined.
Donations can be made via this link, with every £10 donated earning one entry into the prize draw. There will be two draws: one on May 22 and another on June 2, with entries closing on June 1 2025.
War Child UK music manager, Feedy Frizzi, commented, “We’re incredibly grateful to Festivals Unite and all the teams that are donating tickets to some of the most highly anticipated festivals of the summer. I’m a strong believer that music fans truly care about making a positive impact, and this prize draw is the perfect opportunity for them to do just that while getting the chance to see some of their favourite artists live. War Child’s teams around the world are working to provide life saving support and long term, specialist care to ensure the safety and recovery of some of the world’s most vulnerable children, and the money raised here will be vital in allowing our teams to continue to do this.”
AIF CEO John Rostron addec, “Festivals are places of love, joy and jubilation, something that everybody should be able to experience but that is so far away from the devastating reality faced by the millions of children that War Child seeks to protect on a daily basis. By bringing together the UK festival community for this campaign, we can not only raise funds for a worthy cause but also demonstrate the good that both festivals and festival-goers can do.”
