Ugly have shared their new single ‘Next To Die’.
Out now, it comes almost a decade on from the band’s first rehearsal, with the ever-evolving Cambridge six-piece keen to write a new chapter. A moment of return, the single follows Ugly’s excellent 2024 EP ‘Twice Around The Sun’.
A piece of cellular songwriting, it blends melodic complexity with a sense of rejuvenation, its dynamic nature finessed into something potent, and self-contained.
The brightness of the band’s live performances shines through, backed by a visualiser laden with light.
Ugly comment…
‘Next To Die’ was the obvious choice for Ugly’s return, a year after the release of our EP and a year of intense gigging – it’s a song we’ve been playing relentlessly for a while now. It is a story of compromise and trying your hardest to make something work even if it’s ultimately doomed. It feels rejuvenating and transitional – emotionally and also sonically for the band moving forward. Because of this we wanted it separate from the album which we’re currently writing.
Tune in now.
Catch Ugly on tour this Spring, including a huge show at London’s Village Underground on May 8th, and a set at Wide Awake festival.
