Tiny East Dallas bar ditches dive vibe for dancing and house music – Dallas News

A new bar called Boogie‘s is opening in East Dallas, replacing The Whippersnapper.
As the name implies, Boogie‘s will be a place to dance, said co-owner Brandon Hays. Codie Binion, a.k.a. CBSMOOVE, will provide the beats. For years, he has played music in Dallas cocktail lounges like Midnight Rambler and Black Swan Saloon.
Boogie‘s will be “a little wild, a little sophisticated and a lot of fun,” said co-owner Phil Schanbaum in a statement. He and Hays co-own Dallas bars Tiny Victories, Double D’s and High Fives. They were part of the relaunch of Burger Schmurger, one of the most highly-anticipated restaurant openings of the year in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Because Boogie‘s is next door to sibling bar High Fives (which continues to sell Burger Schmurger burgers), Boogie‘s will not sell food.

Hays said they’re switching up the former Whippersnapper after nearly 10 years because the neighborhood is changing. A development across the street, flanking Henderson Avenue, will bring office space, restaurants and retail to the neighborhood. Gone is the quirky Whip, which was bold enough to launch pop-ups honoring TV shows like The Office, Friends and Breaking Bad.
“The street is evolving, we are evolving and we believe this is the perfect concept looking forward,” Hays said.
He and Schanbaum are also re-concepting their restaurant Sfuzzi nearby. It will soon reopen as Hendy’s.
Boogie‘s will have a “relaxed, low-fi vibe” in the evenings, Hays shared. Then it becomes “a high-energy underground house music venue” with a pricey sound system.
Visitors after 10 p.m. can order Boogie Bottles, or batched cocktails that can be shared. Hays expects bottles of Champagne to be popular, too.
Service will be “focused on hospitality and not theatrics,” Hays said.
Boogie‘s will be at 1806 McMillan Ave., Dallas. It is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2025.
