Rock and Soul Institution The Doobie Brothers to release their 16th Album with Walk This Road in support of their upcoming summer tour
With an audience expanding in numerous countries and many of their albums certified gold and platinum for over five decades, The Doobie Brothers’ greatest hit collection includes “Listen to the Music”, “It Keeps You Runnin’” and “What a Fool Believes,” – thanks to their ability in building upon several genres for pop radio. While the band members have come, gone, and returned again throughout their long standing career road, including two original members Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons, The Doobies always found ways to refine their musicality, especially when Michael McDonald joined the band in 1975 injecting soulful and jazz touches. Though their time in the recording studio has lessened, their entertaining tours remain strong, including highlighting their latest album, Walk This Road (Doobie Doobie Doo Music/Rhino). With a release date of early June 2025, four songs are ready for preview.
The title track focuses on a great pairing of McDonald and Mavis Staples contributing her signature gravelly alto about persevering through the tough times.
“Lahaina” pays enthusiastic tribute to the families affected by the Maui wildfires in 2023 featuring drummer Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), joined by Hawaiian natives and artists in their own right – Jake Shimabukuro and Henry Kapono.
“Call Me” provides another Doobie Brothers 70’s and 80’s memory booster as lead vocalist Tom Johnston shines on this brass propelled piece.
“Learn to Let Go” features McDonald on the lead microphone, taking us back once again when The Doobies injected soulful vibes.
The title track, “Lahaina,” “Call Me” and “Learn to Let Go” are currently available on most digital platforms.
