The late Steve Albini‘s private collection of music, books, and artefacts will be sold as part of the weekly Steve Albini: Closet series.
The newly launched website allows fans to own Albini’s beloved belongings and describes itself as an “entity created to distribute the treasures amassed by the late polymath”.The website’s description reads: “Steve pursued many fields of interest, and most of them are represented somewhere in his collections.”
Former Forced Exposure editor Byron Coley is heading up Steve Albini: Closet, and will sign each item with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Coley himself. Every Friday, new items will be listed and all of the proceeds will the go to the Albini’s estate.
It promises to offer cassettes, singles, CDs, and LPs from Albini’s personal collections as well as fanzines, shirts, posters and other memorabilia that the late producer amassed over his lifetime, as well as “mysterious bargains”.
Coley shared: “Every Friday, expect 100-200 more, a steady stream of the unusual, the rare, the weird and the overlooked. Somewhere in the stacks, about 4,000 pieces wait their turn, plus a corner for the smaller curiosities.”
He continued: “No grand plan apart from the slow unveiling of oddities and treasures, week after week, for the next year. Keep your eyes peeled.”
Last May, Albini, who produced classic albums for the likes of Nirvana and PJ Harvey, suffered a fatal heart attack at his recording studio and died aged 61.
Following his passing, PJ Harvey shared her grief on social media, poignantly writing, “Meeting Steve Albini and working with him changed the course of my life. He taught me so much about music, and life. Steve was a great friend – wise, kind and generous. I am so grateful.”
