The Southern Miss School of Music is pleased to present “Haydn in Hattiesburg,” a new program launching June 1–7, 2025. Musicians from across the country will converge in Hattiesburg for a week of pedagogy, performances and a celebration of Papa Haydn.
Attendees will work alongside accomplished School of Music artists and faculty while exploring the mastery of the first Viennese school and the work it inspired. From the opening cookout, coaching, rehearsals, classes and more fun social activities, participants will perform in chamber ensembles and orchestra as part of FestivalSouth 2025.
On Friday, June 6 at 5:30 p.m., chamber ensembles will perform during FestivalSouth’s “Visual Rhythms” art exhibit at Main Street Gallery. A closing orchestral concert will take place on Saturday afternoon, June 7 at 2 p.m. in the Community Arts Center Paper Warehouse Theater, prior to the festival’s “Continuum Photography Exhibition” in the Community Arts Center. The tentative program includes Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 103 in Eb, “Drumroll,” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C.
Both events are free and open to the public.
