The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, UK, has announced a new creative partnership with the groundbreaking ensemble Manchester Collective that builds on the ensemble’s recent creative residency at the college. The RNCM Manchester Collective Studio, which launches in autumn 2025, is a one-year programme that will support postgraduate strings students who want to take a deep dive into contemporary performance, including composing new music, and will culminate in a public project with Manchester Collective.
RNCM Manchester Collective Studio is one of three new creative partnerships announced by RNCM to support modern careers in the music industry and provide opportunities for its students and recent graduates. Additionally, the college will partner with English National Opera and BBC Radio 3 to provide opportunities for students in opera and broadcast media, respectively.
Deputy principal (performance and programmes) of the RNCM, Manus Carey, said ‘We want our students to not just become fantastic, rounded, contemporary musicians, but to have great ideas about the future of the music world.’
Linda Begbie, chief executive of Manchester Collective, said: ‘We will be looking for emerging artists who are brave and ready to push their own boundaries – thinkers and explorers, as well as fine instrumentalists. We strive to create space for risk, always looking for that expressive spark of something visceral and honest.’
