Pulp will perform two world-exclusive live sessions for the BBC next month, with a ballot now open for tickets.
The legendary group confirmed that their new album, More, would release on June 6. Alongside the announcement of Pulp‘s first studio album in twenty-four years was lead single Spike Island, which made its public debut on Lauren Laverne’s 6 Music Show last Thursday (April 10). The band will perform a 6 Music Session that will be broadcast on Nick Grimshaw’s show on Thursday, May 29, alongside an interview with the band. This will be followed by a few exclusive tracks from the recording on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Friday, May 30.
Frontman Jarvis Cocker confirmed the sessions in an interview on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Radio 2 earlier today (April 15). He said: “We are really looking forward to this. From my time at 6 Music, I remember that the BBC Radio Theatre is a very intimate venue. As long as we can fit all our equipment in there it’s going to be great to play some songs for Radio 2 and 6 Music.”
Nick Grimshaw said: “It was amazing to hear Pulp’s new music exclusively on Lauren’s show last week. I’m so excited to hear more from their new album as part of their 6 Music session and to speak to the band about the process of writing and recording their first album in almost 24 years.”
The album features a handful of songs which were played across North American and European tour dates in 2024, including Farmer’s Market, My Sex, and Background Noise. Also featured is Jarv Is… cut Slow Jam, as well as We Love Life demo, Got To Have Love.
Jo Whiley said: “I have been a fan of Pulp for as long as I have been presenting on the radio, and it’s a joy to still be following their hugely successful career all these years later. I’m so looking forward to hearing all those songs that have such personal significance to me – and to our Radio 2 listeners – as they play to a small audience of lucky fans in the BBC Radio Theatre next month.”
Jeff Smith, Head of Music for Radio 2 and 6 Music, said: “Pulp are one of the UK’s most loved bands, with a steady stream of hits and songs that have grown in popularity and status over the years. I’m delighted that the band have agreed to give the BBC two contrasting sets, one for Radio 2 appealing to musical mainstream audiences and another for 6 Music whose listeners’ tastes lie beyond the mainstream.”
Fans of the band can apply for a ticket to the intimate show following this link.
Pulp frontman Cocker also said there were no plans for the band to play Glastonbury later this year. He told Scott Mills: “I don’t think that’s going to happen. If it was a life-or-death situation, but I really don’t think it’s going to happen.”
Pulp will perform a series of concert dates across the UK and Ireland in June, followed by European festivals in July, and a co-headline show with LCD Soundsystem in September.
