United Kingdom pop-punkers Royals release a pair of new songs tailored perfectly for summer. The first is the band’s newest single, “Killer,” a soaring song that is impossible not to replay. It’s everything Royals does best.
“The song plays on the idea of someone being a ‘stone cold killer’ (for their looks), but also takes it literally,” the band says.
The second song was a bit of a surprise for the band, as its was much less televised than “Killer.” “Spinning Out” lays on thick the early pop-punk vibes. But it’s lower and heavier than the typical bubbly, genre tune.
“It’s the first time putting our bassist’s harsh vocals onto the record, which is fitting for a song that channels such a large amount of frustration,” the band say. “Lyrically, it takes aim at corrupt leadership, growing inequality, and the disillusionment of a generation stuck in a system that not only doesn’t work for most people, but actively keeps a lot of them down.”

Vocalist Luke Smithson produced the songs, while Royals lassoed some scene heavy hitters to fine tune it. Clint Murphy, who has worked with Enter Shikari and Busted, mixed the track. And Grant Berry, who has worked with Hot Milk and All Time Low, mastered it.
If the rest of Royals new music is anything like “Killer” and “Spinning Out” we are in for their best chapter yet.
