Police have made five arrests in connection to the mass stabbing at a London party early this morning.
The Metropolitan Police launched a manhunt after officers rushed to the music event in Thamsemead in South East London, following reports of a “violent incident” with multiple people injured. The Met said attending officers found that five people had been stabbed.
They have now announced they have arrested the five injured men for violent disorder. Detective Inspector Steven Andrews, who is leading the investigation, said the police and ambulance service responded quickly for the safety of the the 300 partygoers at the event.
He said: “Officers responded quickly to provide medical assistance to the five injured people alongside the London Ambulance Service and ensure the safety of around 300 people, who were at this music event.
“The five men who have been injured have been arrested for violent disorder and we continue to work to establish any wider involvement.
“There will be a continued police presence on Nathan Way throughout today while we continue this investigation.
“We encourage anyone with any information to contact police to assist with enquiries.”
It’s understood three of the men sustained injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. The other two men are still undergoing medical assessment. The injured party are aged 22, 24, 31 and 32.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Nathan Way, SE28 at 4.19am today. Police said the five injured men are currently in hospital. The males are said to have been at a party before the attacks happened in the early hours of the morning.
London Ambulance Service transported five people to hospital with stab wounds.
Earlier, a Met spokesman said: "Officers are investigating an incident in Thamesmead this morning, where five people were seriously assaulted.
"Police were called at 4.19am on Saturday, 17 May, to Nathan Way, SE28 following reports of multiple people injured at an event.
"Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and five people were located with stab wounds.
"They were taken to hospital where their injuries are being assessed."
The road, which is home to a number of industrial units, has been closed for more than five hours now and a police cordon is still in place.
Jason Metals, a scrap metal merchant based in the street, told customers his yard would be closed due to 'multiple stabbings'.
He said: "Overnight there has been multiple stabbings outside and subsequently the police have closed the road in both directions.
"They have advised me that the road will be closed for the rest of the day."
A statement on AA Maps says: "Road blocked and slow traffic due to police incident on Nathan Way, both ways between Kellner Road and A2016 Pettman Crescent."
The knife horror happened in Nathan Way in Thamesmead in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Industrial units that feature on the road include a business park, a cash and carry and an events company.
It is not yet known outside which premise the horror happened.
