Patch and Tweak is a new online reading platform that brings BJOOKS‘ hardcover books on synth and music tech to the digital multimedia world.
In recent years, the music tech media landscape has become increasingly digital. Each year, more magazines disappear from the scene, while YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and others become increasingly influential. Kim Bjørn of Bjooks took a different path during this time.
With his company, he created numerous high-quality hardcover books covering various historical and modern music technology topics. The last one dealt with the story of Bob Moog and his legendary Moog Minimoog Synthesizer. At SynthFest France 2025, Kim Bjørn unveiled his latest project, Patch and Tweak.com. Surprisingly, he’s going digital and multimedia.
With Patch and Tweak.com, Kim Bjørn is bringing his hardcover books online. The reason for this new focus is the rising costs of producing hardcover books, which allows them to offer people an affordable way to read them.
The new online reading platform has already celebrated a soft opening. It’s subscription-based and offers the opportunity to read almost all Bjooks books conveniently from your computer, tablet, or phone for € 7.99 (4€ early bird for two months)—anywhere you have internet access.
With an active Core membership, you get access to the following books: Push Turn Move, Pedal Crush, the Patch & Tweak with Moog and Korg, Synth Gems 1, and Inspire The Music. Not included is the Minimoog book, which is too new.
A downer is that you have to be online to read the books. So you can not read them on the plane unless you have access. In addition to reading functionality, you can also search through books, annotate, and bookmark them online.
A PDF download is not planned due to concerns about piracy. Currently, for the soft opening, you can read the first book, Push Turn Move, for free without needing to register.
According to Kim Bjørn, one advantage of digitalization is keeping books up to date and adding new information. In paper form, this requires printing a new version, which is a significant expense.
At a later date, there will be a larger membership that includes not only the e-books but also extra articles, tutorials, interviews, embedded videos, patches, and more.
As you know, I’m not a fan of subscriptions. But in this case, I find it useful, especially if you don’t want to spend 400€ filling your apartment with heavy books. They are great for lovers of hardcover books and those who prefer to read offline.
For everyone else, this new option allows you to read the first seven books for a significantly lower price.
The basic subscription for the Patch and Tweak membership is now available for an early-bird price of € 4 for the first two months. The regular price is 7,99€ and includes all the e-books, except the new Minimoog book. The full Push Turn Move book is available for free reading on the website.
