“A complete master of his craft,” declared Clash Magazine, while The Sunday Times praised him for “conjuring up exquisite storytelling.”
In this new occasional series, leading Irish artists perform their landmark album and music from their career.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of his debut album Evening Train, Mick will perform newly arranged versions of the album's songs in a special concert at the National Concert Hall.
Mick Flannery’s songwriting delves deeply into the complexities of the human condition—its flaws, triumphs, and uncertainties. His live performances are beloved for their emotional depth, self-deprecating humour, and genuine connection with audiences, often guiding listeners through heartbreak and joy in the same breath.
A stage adaptation of Evening Train—an extraordinary concept album—has been in development for several years. Titled The House Must Win, this theatrical work will receive a special ‘work-in-progress’ presentation at this year’s Galway International Arts Festival, ahead of its full production in 2026.
Mick has written both the script and the music, collaborating with Liam Robinson (of Hadestown) on the new arrangements. These will also feature prominently in the upcoming anniversary concert at the National Concert Hall.
