Music industry mentors to meet with local students through Grammy In the Schools – University of Alabama at Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham will host the Grammy In the Schools program and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus for high school students Wednesday, April 30.
The Grammy In the Schools program provides students with insight into careers that are available to them in the music industry, and direction on how to prepare for them.
Grammy In the Schools and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus will be at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The UAB event is the culmination of three regional music career days happening in Birmingham from April 28-30, presented by the Grammy Museum, the Recording Academy Atlanta Chapter, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, the UAB College of Arts and SciencesDepartment of Music, Birmingham Public Schools, and the City of Birmingham.
Grammy In the Schools provides an opportunity for students to interact with professionals representing a wide range of careers. Speakers include Grammy Award winners and nominees and professionals in related disciplines. These interactive sessions take students through the inner workings of the industry to learn exactly what it takes to make it in the business. The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is a premier nonprofit mobile recording facility that provides hands-on experiences for students of all ages.
Speakers who will offer music industry mentorship include UAB University Professor Henry Panion III, Ph.D., award-winning composer, producer, arranger and orchestrator; UAB Assistant Professor of Music Technology Craig Brandwein; jazz artist Eric Essix; Billboard chart-topper Kim Scott; and Kelvin Wooten, Grammy Award-winning producer; with Arin Canbolet, vice president of Education, Grammy Museum; and Brian Rothschild, co-founder and executive director, John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.
The Grammy Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating and exploring music from yesterday and today to inspire the music of tomorrow through exhibits, education, grants, preservation initiatives and public programming. Paying tribute to musical heritage, the museum values and celebrates the dynamic connection in people’s diverse backgrounds and music’s many genres, telling stories that inspire, and creative expression that leads change in the industry.
In its 27th year of touring, the Lennon Bus features a Dolby Atmos studio with the latest audio and video technology, gear and products. The concept began as an offshoot of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, dedicated to providing opportunities for both professional and amateur songwriters around the world, proceeds from which help support the Lennon Bus. The Lennon Bus travels across the United States and Canada year-round, providing free tours and workshops at schools, colleges and universities, at festivals, on tours with headlining artists, and at major industry conferences. The Bus is made possible by Yoko Ono Lennon with support from sponsors and contributors.
