Morgan Wallen has finally spoken out on his abrupt exit from the Saturday Night Live set.
After serving as the musical guest on the late-night sketch comedy show in March, the country music star could be seen leaning next to guest host Mikey Madison and whispering something.
As the credits rolled, Wallen stepped off stage and walked past the camera in front of him.
The behaviour sparked debate on social media, and during a recent interview for Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley, the Just in Case singer addressed the controversy.
„Seriously, SNL, did they make you mad?“ host Pressley asked.
„No, no,“ replied Wallen. „I was just ready to go home. I’d been there all week.“
A short time after he departed SNL, Wallen posted a photo of a private jet with the words, „Get me to God’s country,“ written over in bold white text.
Accordingly, Pressley reminded the musician about the message.
In response, Wallen simply smiled and said, „Yeah.“
Representatives for the 31-year-old and SNL have not yet commented further.
However, longtime SNL castmember Kenan Thompson previously criticised Wallen for not taking a minute to celebrate with Madison and the rest of the performers.
„Saturday, I guess it was just different because it just felt so abrupt. And it was already such a small grouping on the stage anyway. So, it was just like, ‚Oh wow, that was pretty visible.‘ You know what I’m saying? It was a pretty visible thing,“ he told Entertainment Weekly at the time.
Wallen is set to drop his fourth studio album, I’m the Problem, on Friday.
