Mason Via has released a new single, “Oh Lordy Me,” ahead of his upcoming album, set to drop on April 25. The track features guest vocals from bluegrass veterans Ronnie Bowman and Junior Sisk.
Co-written with fellow North Carolinian Brooks Forsyth, the song draws inspiration from the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains and reflects on a rural upbringing rooted in simplicity. Lyrically, it underscores themes of environmental appreciation and warns against the distractions of materialism.
Via describes the song as a “secret protest,” calling for unity and environmental stewardship. While the message leans modern, the inclusion of Sisk and Bowman provides a deliberate link to classic bluegrass, a move Via says was intended to “center the needle” for fans of the genre’s more traditional sound.
Mason describes the song as “so much fun to play at live shows because everyone in the crowd will normally clap and sing along.” In the studio, he and his collaborators created the perfect party track, fueled by moonshine and a spirit of joy. “We had a blast hollering out the gang vocals and capturing that real deal fiddlers convention festival feel,” Mason shares. “It’s like you’re sitting in on a jam session around the soup kitchen in Galax, Virginia, with the sounds of the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounding you.”
