The cream of young Laois musical talent is set to be showcased in Stradbally at the annual Music at the Malthouse.
The annual festival of musical entertainment, presented by Music Generation Laois, is a collaboration between Music Generation Laois (MGL) and Laois School of Music musicians. It also features guest artists in the beautiful Stradbally venue.
Events kicks off on Saturday, May 10 at 7 pm with a concert featuring MGL Ensembles, the Laois Harp Ensemble, Laois Trad Orchestra, and MGL Trad Group with special guests.
The guests on Saturday are: virtuoso Scottish Harper Catriona McKay, Cathy Jordan (Dervish),Filipe Carbonell (No Crows), Johnny Óg Connolly (TG4 Gradam Ceoil Composer of the Year 2025).
On Sunday, May 11, from 2pm features the Building Orchestral Pathways (BOP) Orchestra. BOP is a collaboration featuring young and adult musicians from MGL, Laois School of Music, Music Generation Offaly, Academy of Music Tullamore, and Music Generation Westmeath under the direction of Musician Educators from across Music Generation programmes in Laois, Offaly and Westmeath. The guest conductor is Diane Daly (Irish Chamber Orchestra). The orchestra’s programme will include Beethoven, Brahms and popular pieces. MORE BELOW PICTURE.
Ensembles also featured on the Sunday afternoon concert include The Dunamaise Strings, a new adult string ensemble from Laois School of Music, Tullamore Academy String Ensemble made up of young musicians and adults from the Academy of Music Tullamore, and Music Generation Westmeath’s Flute Ensemble.

BOP is supported by the Music Generation/Arts Council Partnership Creativity and Collaboration Fund. BOP is led by Music Generation Westmeath, in partnership with its Laois and Offaly counterparts.
MGL is part of Music Generation, Ireland’s national music education programme, initiated by Music Network, co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds and the Department of Education.
Locally, MGL is part of the Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board and is supported by Laois County Council.
MGL, the Laois School of Music and related groups are based at the Laois Music Centre in Portlaoise.
